Climate
Thanks to the Gulf Stream Belgium has a temperate maritime climate with rainfall evenly distributed throughout the year, usually in the form of short showers. Weather forecast for Belgium
Time zone
The time in Belgium is Central European Time (CET), which is GMT plus 1 hour, plus 1 hour in summer.
Currency
The currency of Belgium is the Euro (EUR).
Language
There are two official languages in Brussels: Dutch (Flemish) and French.

In Belgium - to contact the police dial 112 or 101 - to contact the fire brigade dial 112 - to contact the ambulance service dial 112
Electricity
Belgium uses the Europlug (Type C & F) for electricity, with two round prongs. The electric current used is 220 volts/50hz. Delegates from North America require a transformer and British participants need an adaptor.
Banks and post office
Most banks open at 09.00 and close around 16.00, Monday through Friday. They are generally closed for lunch between 12.00- 14.00. Post offices are generally open between 09.00-16.00.
Local cuisine and eating out
Brussels has numerous restaurants of various styles, prices and categories serving local or international cuisine. Most restaurants are open for lunch from 12am to 3 pm and for dinner from 7pm to 11pm.
Paying and tipping
Major credit cards are accepted in most hotels, shops and restaurants. However, it is also recommended that visitors carry small amounts of cash at all times. Prices in hotels and restaurants as well as the price of taxi fares are calculated to include taxes and service.
Shopping
Normal trading shopping hours are Monday to Saturday from 9.00 to 17:00 hours. There is a variable value added tax (VAT) of 6 % to 21% applied to most items and services but the VAT will always be included.
Insurance
The Meeting organizers cannot accept liability for personal injuries sustained, for loss of, or damage to, property belonging to meeting participants (or their accompanying persons), either during or as a result of the meeting. Please check the validity of your own travel insurance.
Liability
In the case of Government intervention or regulation, military activity, strikes or any other circumstances that make it impossible or inadvisable for the meeting to take place at the time and place provided, the participant shall waive any claim for damages or compensation except the amount paid for registration after deduction of actual expenses incurred in connection with the congress and there shall be no future liability on the part of either party.
