How to get there

Brussels is centrally located in Europe, at the crossroads of highways between Amsterdam, Paris, London and the Ruhr Area. The city is easily accessible by car, by train and by air.

By air

BRUSSELS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (BRU) is located at 14 kilometres from the City Centre of Brussels, which you can reach by bus, by train, by taxi and by car.
  • By train
    Brussels Airport is less than 20 minutes away from the city centre. The Airport City Express links the airport with Brussels Midi, Central and North stations four times an hour. The train station is located at level -1 of the terminal building itself.

    You should buy a ticket in the train station prior to boarding the train. Tickets can be purchased at the ticketing machines or service desk at the station and cost approx 8,50 €.

    Trains in the direction of Brussels always stop in the three Brussels stations North, Central and South(/Midi), in this order. The Central station is the closest to the conference venue and many hotels and is the one where you typically want to get off the train.

  • By bus
    The Brussels bus company STIB/MIVB operates a bus link between Brussels Airport and the railway station Brussels-Luxemburg in the European district. This line is operated by means of comfortable articulated buses with space for luggage storage.

  • By taxi
    Metered taxis are available outside the arrivals hall.
    Price: Between 30 and 40 €

BRUSSELS SOUTH CHARLEROI AIRPORT
Brussels South Charleroi airport is situated at 45 minutes from Brussels city centre. It mainly welcomes low cost companies such as Ryanair, Wizzair, Jetairfly, Jet4you… and proposes 100 destinations. Shuttles are organised every 30 minutes between Brussels South Charleroi Airport and the Brussels South Station.

By High-Speed train

Those arriving in Brussels by international train (such as ICE, Thalys, Eurostar) will typically arrive in Brussels South/Midi station.

To reach the city centre and venue from the Brussels South/Midi train station, take any train travelling north (to Antwerp, Brussels International Airport, Dendermonde, Essen, Eupen, Genk, Huy, Landen, Louvain, Liège, Louvain-la-Neuve, Luxembourg (L), Maastricht (NL), Schaerbeek, Sint-Niklaas, Tongres, Turnhout, or Zottegem) and get off at the first stop, Brussels-Central or take the metro (lines 2 or 6, see "Public Transport" below).

By car

If you do decide to take the car, Brussels is at the heart of a modern motorway network linking France to the south, Holland to the north and Germany & Luxembourg to the east, without forgetting the Channel Tunnel via northern France to the UK.

Moving around the city

For getting around, those who live in or come to Brussels have plenty of choice. Walking, cycling, tram or metro, bus, shared night taxis… In this way, you can easily get to museums, legendary places and venues, exhibitions and shopping centres or meet up with friends at any hour of the day or night.
By Taxi
Taxi stations are easily found throughout the 19 boroughs of Brussels. Fares are displayed on the meter and include service. Tips are left at your discretion.
By Bike
Villo! Is Brussels new system of self-service bikes for hire with 180 stations and 2,500 bikes. Villo! encourages intermodality and eco-friendly choices. Very easy to use: it takes only a few minutes to hire or return a bike.
Your 1 Day ticket will cost € 1.60 + rate/ half-hour.

By Public transport

The public transport system (metro, tram, bus) covers the whole of the city with buses, trams and metros Classic single trip ticket: € 2.10
One day ticket: € 7.00
On foot
In Brussels, it is easy to get from one place to another on foot.
The following are examples of the time you would take:
  • Brussels Central station/Venue: 11 minutes
  • Grand-Place/Sablon: 10 minutes
  • Grand-Place/Quartier Louise: 15 minutes
  • Grand-Place/Quartier européen: 25 minutes
  • Grand-Place/Marolles: 10 minutes
  • Grand-Place/Gare Centrale: 4 minutes
  • Grand-Place/Gare du Midi: 28 minutes
